Living in Japan: Month Ten

I still have 2 months left in Japan, but as the time to go back to Canada closes in, I’m feeling like I wish I could stay longer, I wish I had done more with my time here. However, looking back at the last month, and the months before, I’ve had a lot of good times, and I’m sure I will be back some day, even if just to visit.

May was the end of my 2 month whirlwind that started with Vedran’s bachelor party, ended in the last couple weeks of the month. The month started off still in Canada, getting ready for Vedran’s wedding. It was a little more subdued of a visit than last time, and tensions were a little bit higher as the wedding approached, but it all culminated in an amazing wedding that I will never forget. Tiffani was looking beautiful in her dress, and Vedran sharp in his suit. The ceremony short, but touching. And the reception was an absolute blast. I think everyone there partied until we could party no more. Part of me can’t wait to see more pictures, and part of me hopes there isn’t a lot of photographic proof of my dance moves.

After getting back to Japan, I had about a week to relax a bit, get some work done, and meet up with some friends who I hadn’t had free time to see in a while. It was good to kind of get back to normal for a little bit. I even got some time to go stay over at the Takehara’s place for a while, to visit and catch up. It was good to see them again, and fun staying at their place. I’ll be back there in a month and as much as I am going to miss my apartment, I’m looking forward to staying there again. Hiromi took us to a rose garden the next day, and then I was off to meet my latest guest, Adrian.

One of the 48 waterfalls!

Adrian had come to Japan for the first time for a 3 week stay, and was staying in Tokyo. He came down to visit Osaka for a few days in the second half of the month. We had some fun times going around Osaka to a lot of the major attractions, like Dotonbori, Osaka castle, Sumiyoshi Taisha, and lots of good restaurants as well. We also went on a hike to the 48 waterfalls of Akame, near Iga in Mie prefecture, which was a lot of fun, too.

Since then, I’ve mostly been trying to plan moving out of this apartment, as well as moving back to Canada. There’s a lot of little things to worry about, like giving notice to the apartment, gas, water, and electricity companies, phone and internet, city office, etc., but my bigger concern is how to get rid of a lot of my furniture, what to bring back to Canada, and how to get it there. At the moment, it seems like the easiest way would be to pay for extra baggage and buy a couple suitcases (or can I check boxes? would they make it?) and bring some extra things that way. I still have some more research to do on that front.

By next months blog, I’ll have moved out, so look forward to hearing about how much fun that was!
