Living in Japan: Month Two

It’s been a little bit quiet here lately, I almost forgot it’s now the end of Month Two!

This has been a pretty productive month. I feel like I started the month with a ton of things that needed to be done, and thanks to some hard work, I’m now pretty much set up. The two major things I took care of were getting my apartment set up, and settling any bureaucracy from the move, like getting accounts set up and insurance, etc.

As far as the apartment goes, it was actually a lot of fun to try and get everything set up from scratch. From buying a bunch of plates and utensils at the 100 yen shops, buying some furniture and having that delivered, and picking out and getting some appliances rented, it’s been a fun challenge. Thanks to getting all that taken care of, I’m hoping to spend more time next month doing more fun and interesting things.

That’s not to say I didn’t have a good time this month. I got myself a new desktop computer for the first time since university, and for me that’s basically like getting a new car. It’s also made working much more comfortable and efficient, having 2 monitors and a proper keyboard and mouse, rather than just my Surface.

I also had some fun with Issei and Joe at the Danjiri festival, and got to meet up with Natsumi and Mike, and it was really great seeing them again! I’ve also hired a tutor to help me get better at Japanese and that has also been really helpful, especially because this month, I plan to go out and meet more people.

My main goals for this month are:

  • Meet some new people
  • Plan a weekend trip some time
  • Buy some fall clothes – its starting to get cooler
  • Explore the neighborhood more, check out the nearby parks and temples

I expect my blog posts might drop down to once every week or two, but let me know if there’s anything you would like to hear about.

Cheers from Osaka,

Garrett
