Living in Japan: Month Four

Another month another post!

12 Prefectures down, 35 to go

Quiz question, what was the new prefecture I visited this month?  If you said Mie prefecture, you’re correct!

November has been an interesting month. The weather has finally been mostly nice, compared to August/September which were really hot, and October where it rained all the time. I’ve been enjoying the beautiful fall colors, which have been sticking around for a long time compared to Canada where I feel like they are gone in a flash.

Since the last update, I’ve been to Mino-o, went back to Nara with some friends, went to Iga and Ise in Mie prefecture, and a quick hike to Ikeda as well. Overall I feel like I’m having a lot of fun every weekend. During the week, I also have a lot of fun and get to practice my Japanese with the friendly folks at my nearby 立ち飲み (stand bar) Beppinsan, which as also been great. I look forward to joining them for their 忘年会 (year end party) soon.

Since I graduated I always have a weird feeling when I’m on campuses

I also took the JLPT (Japanese language proficiency test) level N2 the other day. The test is run twice yearly, worldwide. I got the N3 2 years ago, but failed the N2 last year, so my fingers are crossed. However the results aren’t posted until late January/early February, so I will have to wait to see.

Looking forward at this month, I want to continue my plan of visiting at least 1 new prefecture every month, but I’m starting to run out of places I can go to in a day trip, so I’ll have to start doing more planning, as I’ll need accommodations if I’m going far. However, this will also mean I get to fill in more of the map, since if I’m going far and staying in a hotel, I’ll probably be able to visit several places in one trip. I’m looking at Shikoku as a possibility for December, but I still haven’t decided.

Other than that, things have been going pretty good. I need to cut back on the delicious food, as my bathroom scale reminds me daily, its taking a toll. I’ll have to take it easy for a while to offset all of the Christmas KFC!
